We’re happy to announce that Curtis Library is a Read ME 2023 participating library! This summer’s featured books are Night of the Living Rez by Morgan Talty and Lungfish by Meghan Gilliss.
Read ME is the Maine Humanities Council’s statewide summer reading program offered in partnership with Maine State Library and Maine Writers & Publishers Alliance. Each year a well-known Maine author recommends two titles by lesser-known Maine authors with libraries and their patrons participating in a summer of reading and discussing the featured books. This year, Colin Woodard is the selecting author. The two books he selected are:
Lungfish by Meghan Gilliss: This debut novel is a brilliant and heartbreaking story about addiction, doubt, marriage, motherhood, and learning to see in the dark.
Night of the Living Rez by Morgan Talty: Set in a Native community in Maine, Night of the Living Rez is a riveting debut collection from Morgan Talty about what it means to be Penobscot in the twenty-first century and what it means to live, to survive, and to persevere after tragedy.
Visit the Maine Read Me website to register for these two statewide online author talks. https://www.mainehumanities.org/programs-grants/read-me/ (Registration will be open soon.)
