At Curtis Memorial Library, we are always looking for ways to provide our community with access to valuable resources, entertainment, and opportunities to learn. We regularly review our services and subscriptions to make sure we are using our resources responsibly and getting the most value for our community.
After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to end our subscription to Kanopy, our streaming film and television service, effective immediately.
Kanopy has offered our patrons access to a wonderful collection of films, documentaries, independent movies, and educational programming. We know that many in our community have enjoyed having this resource available, and we appreciate everyone who has made use of it.
Unfortunately, the cost of maintaining the subscription has become too high for our library budget. Like many digital services, Kanopy’s pricing model and associated costs require us to regularly evaluate whether we can continue offering the service sustainably. Ultimately, we need to make choices that allow us to support a wide range of library services and resources for our entire community.
What’s next for movie lovers?
While we will miss having Kanopy available, we aren’t giving up on movies! We plan to expand our DVD collection to offer patrons more opportunities to enjoy movies, documentaries, and television series through the library.
And we’d love your input! What movies or television shows would you like to see on our shelves? Are there favorite films, classic movies, popular series, or documentaries you’ve been hoping to borrow? We welcome your suggestions as we build and grow this collection.
Don’t forget about our other digital resources!
Curtis Memorial Library continues to offer a variety of digital resources, including:
Libby/CloudLibrary: Borrow ebooks, audiobooks, and digital magazines.
Movies, TV Series and Documentaries: Explore our catalog for our current collection.
We understand that this may be disappointing news for those who regularly use Kanopy. We are grateful for the opportunity to offer this service and appreciate your understanding as we make decisions about how best to support our community.
As always, if you have questions or need help finding other resources, please stop by the library. We’re happy to help!
