Over the past 6 months, the team at the Curtis Memorial Library has been working on a new space for patrons of the library. We have created a space, the Creative Hive, which will allow the community to explore, create and imagine. The vision for the Creative Hive was to create a space within the library that holds to our library mission and also expands the value of the library by incorporating a space to allow our community to grow, engage and collaborate. We focused on three areas for the space:
- Digitization
- Fabrication
- An Art Space
Within in each area, we have expanded the focus to have a few pieces of equipment which will allow the patron to learn and explore.
In the digitization area, we have a computer, Epson Fastfoto scanner, Epson flatbed scanner, VHS/MiniDisc converter, Slide viewer and a CD/DVD burner. Patrons will be able to reserve the room to use this equipment to digitize their memories- whether those are on a VCR tape, on slides or in photos. More information about the equipment can be found here.
In the fabrication area, we have a computer, a Cricut, a printer, two sewing machines, a sewing projector, poster printer and a Lightbox. Patrons will be able to reserve the room to use this equipment to do a sewing project, project a sewing pattern, use the Cricut for a new project or transfer patterns using the Lightbox. More information about the equipment can be found here. Learn more about the Cricut – here.
Art Space
The entire room can be used for art programs! We have had a few classes in the past few months where this space has been used to invoke creativity and fun! On a weekly basis we have a drop in do it yourself craft that can done – supplies and help included. We have a computer with Adobe Creator studio software and a large poster printer. Patrons can either book this space to use this software or send a poster order to the help desk to be printed out.
Continuing in November, we will have introduction classes for this equipment for patrons to sign up for. Once an introductory class has been attended, the space can be reserved. Any reservations for this room will need to be done by a Curtis Memorial Library card holder and also have attended an introductory class.
See our Public Calendar of Events for upcoming Intro Classes and then book a time to use the space.
