Curtis Memorial Library will be starting our FREE seed library starting next week! Every Tuesday at 4pm, we will be putting a new variety of seed as we start the growing season here in Maine. We will also be taking any unused seeds at this time. Please drop off your unused seeds to share with your neighbors.
Start all seeds indoors and then transplant outdoors unless noted ^ then start directly outside.
Starting in March:
March 10 – Celery, Leeks, & Onion
March 17- Calendula^, Mustard^ & Spinach^
March 24 – Peppers
March 31- Tomatoes & Tomatillos
April 14 – Kale^
April 21 – Orach^, Lettuce^
May 19 – Beans^, Basil^ & Popcorn^
May 26 – Cucumbers^, Squash^, Quinoa^, Amaranth^, Watermelon^, Southern Cowpea
We will be providing information in the library regarding how to grow these seeds. For more information:
University of Maine Cooperative Extension Website is full of helpful information.
Our assumption is that April 19th is the last Frost Date, but please pay attention to your microclimate’s weather.
*All our seeds are Open Source Seed initiative varieties. The mission of the Open Source Seed Initiative (OSSI) is dedicated to maintaining fair and open access to plant genetic resources worldwide in order to ensure the availability of germplasm to farmers, gardeners, breeders, and communities of this and future generations. See here for more information about OSSI.
