LIBRARY OF THINGS: Borrowing Beyond Books
We lend more than books! The Library of Things is a collection of non-traditional library items to provide diverse opportunities for learning and engagement. Think of Curtis Memorial Library for all of your sharing needs and let us know what else we should lend as part of our Library of Things.

Guidelines for Borrowing and Use
Objects lent out by the Library through its Library of Things program must be checked out from and returned to Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick, ME. A valid Curtis Memorial Library card in good standing is required to borrow a Thing. Borrowers of specialty items must be at least 18 years old. At this time only Curtis Memorial Library patrons can reserve a Thing.
Loan Periods and Fines
In most cases, a Thing may be borrowed for 3 week intervals and renewed up to 2 times unless another borrower is waiting. Wifi Hotspots are currently available for 1 week intervals.
Proper Use and Liability
Use care when handling the Thing. The borrower is solely responsible for the Thing and will be billed for reasonable repair or replacement costs associated with damage or loss of Things and/or peripherals due to neglect or abuse. The Library has sole discretion in making these decisions.
Curtis Memorial Library is not responsible for any injury, loss, or damage that may occur from use of a Thing.
All equipment checkouts are currently limited to Curtis Memorial Library cardholders, and during the pandemic we will be circulating a limited segment of our things collection.
HOW CML’S LIBRARY OF THINGS WORKS

- Request the item:
- Click on the image below and request the item through the catalog,
- Or call (207) 725-5242 to chat with a Reference Librarian who will request it for you.
- Once you have been notified that your item is ready, you may obtain the item:
- During open hours, come to the 2nd floor Help Desk to check out the item,
- Or get the item from Curbside Pick-Up by calling (207) 725-5242 when you arrive at CML.
- Return the item:
- Call (207) 725-5242 when you are at the library for Curbside Drop-Off,
- Or return the item to the Greeter Station during open hours.
