Exhibits Policy :
CURTIS MEMORIAL LIBRARY MISSION: To enhance the quality of life in our communities by advancing knowledge, fostering creativity, encouraging the exchange of ideas, and building community.
Curtis Memorial Library supports art in the community by displaying artists’ work from its service area. We recognize that art in public spaces contributes to the life and vitality of our community.
Exhibitors must consider the viewing audience of a public library when submitting works for consideration. Visitors to Curtis Memorial Library come from a variety of backgrounds, encompass all age groups and support diverse beliefs. Subject matter must be appropriate for children as well as adults.
The Library does not endorse or take position on any view presented in the artwork.
The Library reserves the right to disqualify images that seem incongruent with the public nature of display space at the Library
The Library’s need for exhibit space takes precedence over the public’s request to use such areas.
The exhibitor will make an appointment with the exhibit coordinator to review the exhibit, address any questions or concerns, and then schedule the dates of the exhibit. After an exhibit is installed, no changes will be made to the exhibit without the exhibit coordinator’s permission. Each individual/group is responsible for hanging and take down of the show, and the scheduling of a reception with the exhibit coordinator. Receptions at the Library are alcohol free. Press and publicity are the sole responsibility of the exhibitor. The Library will include exhibit information on its calendars and eNEWS.
The exhibitor will provide a bio page and contact information to be displayed with the exhibit. The exhibitor will directly handle any sales and may include pricing information with contact info. The Library does not take a commission and takes no role in this process.
Installation/Dismantling: the installation and dismantling of any exhibit must be done with minimal disruption to staff and patrons. For this reason, all installation and dismantling will be scheduled with the Library exhibit coordinator and scheduled on the Library calendar. The Library does not have proper or secure storage and cannot store any artwork at any time.
Insurance: The Library does not accept liability for theft or damage. All exhibitors will need to sign a waiver/release of liability.
